With the new year here, we are pleased that there will be plenty of activity around FASD in North Carolina in the next few months
  • FASD & the Brain-Based Approach: a neurobehavioral (NB) approach to FASDs for parents and professionals working with individuals suspected or diagnosed with exposure to alcohol in utero. See the details on this training that NCFASD Informed is cosponsoring with FAFASD in Raleigh.
  • Rooted in Advocacy is The NC Arc annual conference.  This year it will include an FASD pre-conference on March 12 with national presenters, Yasmin Senturias, MD, Philip A. May, Ph.D., Dan Dubovsky, MSW, and Kathy Mitchell, MHS.  During the actual conference day, there will be an FASD track, featuring sessions by Nate Sheets, and Kathy Hotelling and Theresa Morris-Brown.
See NCFASD Informed website for information on available scholarships for parents for all of these events.
  • Parents need to talk to others going through the experience of raising a child with an FASD.  Three established groups in NC and others looking for participants to get started. See Support Groups
  • Elizabeth Montgomery started a Pitt County affiliate of our non-profit to establish a model that other affiliates across the state can use. See is seeking volunteers to brainstorm this model.  Please contact her at emontgomery@apnc.org to help us move our efforts throughout the state.
  • Other volunteer opportunities exist, including short term projects and Board membership.
Please contact kathy.hotelling@ncfasdifnormed.org if you can assist us. We cannot do this alone!
